Wedding Gown Questions

  1. Are strapless wedding gowns still popular, because I'm looking for something different?
Strapless is still the most popular neckline, but at the latest bridal fashion shows in New York, we saw a lot of alternatives, like halters. Plus, straps are making a come back from spaghetti to tank-width. If you are concerned about coverage, many designers are now making coordinating shawls and wraps.
  2. Mermaid silhouettes are too severe on my figure, but a-line is too boring. Are there any other options for me?
Gowns with a mermaid silhouette can be very close to the body or a bit more relaxed. There are many styles that are have a modified mermaid silhouette or a trumpet shape which may be more wearable. You just have to try them on and see!
  3. What should I do with my wedding gown after the wedding is over?
We can have it cleaned and heirloomed for you. Your gown will be cleaned, then fitted on an acid-free bust form. Heirlooming involves wrapping the clean gown in tissue paper and packing it into an acid-neutral preservation chest.
  4. I want to wear a couture gown on my wedding day, but I need my gown to have more coverage. Can I add sleeves or raise the neckline on a designer gown?
Since our wedding gowns are custom and made to your specific measurements, styles, and design, changes can be made with the consent of the designer. Most of our designers are very accommodating and would be happy to add sleeves or raise the neck line to make you more comfortable in your wedding gown. These design changes typically run around $500.
  5. When should I order my wedding gown?
It will take approximately 12-16 weeks from the day you order your couture gown to the day it arrives in our studio. Alterations normally take 2-3 weeks after you have scheduled your fitting. Rush orders are accepted with the approval of the designer.
  6. I want to stand out from my other friends who are getting married. How can I go about making my wedding gown unique but still feel like a bride?
Adding a splash of color is a great way to express your personality, style and wedding colors. Adding colored buttons or a colored sash to your waist will set you apart. If you are looking for a less dramatic way of expressing yourself, use accessories. Add a colored brooch, a funky cuff or a couture head band.
  7. Are alterations included when I purchase my gown?
Alterations are not included with your gown. We do not offer in-house alterations, but would be happy to refer you to a seamstress in the area that will help you with your alterations in a timely manner.
